Lewis’s story is part of the 1950’s “Nice Girls on Mars” controversy that the late SF&F critic Joanna Russ was still bitching about in the early 1970’s. It all derived from Dr. Robert S. Richardson’s nonfiction essay “The Day After We Land on Mars,” published in the December 1955 issue of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Nice Girls on Mars: “Ministering Angels” by C. S. Lewis
Thanks to another generous fan of old paperback books at the Internet Archive, you can read or download for free “Ministering Angels,” a 1958 science fiction short story penned by British writer C. S. Lewis, as it was reprinted in the anthology The Best from Fantasy and Science Fiction, Eighth Series (1959), edited by Anthony Boucher.
