Marvel discusses John Carter: World of Mars, its new offensive in Barsoomian comic book war

Over at the website of entertainment powerhouse Marvel, writer Peter David talks about John Carter: World of Mars, the forthcoming four-issue comic book series that is a prequel, not to the original John Carter of Mars novels penned by Edgar Rice Burroughs, but to the long-awaited Disney film John Carter (2012).

Interior preview. Art by Luke Ross.
Set on Barsoom in the centuries before the arrival of John Carter, the Marvel series is being scripted by writer Peter David, a huge fan of ERB, with interior artwork by Luke Ross and cover art by Esad Ribic. The project has the full support and cooperation of Disney and film director Andrew Stanton, and is a response to the new Warlord of Mars: Fall of Barsoom comic book prequel series being published by competitor Dynamite Comics.

Check out John Carter: World of Mars #1 preview art by Luke Ross, then check your local comic book shop in October 2011 for the premiere issue!

  1. I'd inform you of this offline, but alas I don't seem to have a working email address for you. Forgive me. It's my hope you'll snag this and pull it so it won't appear too much like a self-plug (Though of course it is). Over on the Republibot site there's a semi-scholarly article about CS Lewis' Mars. There's also some interesting speculation in the comments about the relationship between Percival Lowell, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and CS Lewis. I can provide the link if you're interested.
