Marvel launches new offensive in Barsoomian comic book war: John Carter: World of Mars

In response to the forthcoming Edgar Rice Burroughs Warlord of Mars: Fall of Barsoom comic book prequel series by Dynamite Comics, powerhouse Marvel Entertainment has announced John Carter: World of Mars, a four-issue comic book series that is being touted as a prequel to the long-awaited Disney film John Carter (2012). Set on Barsoom in the centuries before the arrival of John Carter, the Marvel series will be scripted by writer Peter David, a huge fan of pulp author ERB, with interior artwork by Luke Ross and cover art by Esad Ribic. Scheduled to be launched in October 2011, the Marvel project has the full support and cooperation of Disney and film director Andrew Stanton.
