The free SF story site 365 tomorrows has an intriguing new piece of flash fiction titled “Starry Night” (2011), penned by seasoned writer Roi R. Czechvala. It’s about suicide on Mars. Here’s a relevant line: “The report from his pistol as he blew his brains out sounded faintly hollow in the crisp desert air.”
Roi R. Czechvala is also the author of two other pieces of Martian flash fiction: “The Honeymooners” (2009) and “The Green Hills of Mars” (2009).
