Dark Horse to bleach Barsoom, reprint Marvel’s John Carter, Warlord of Mars comics from 1970's

Comic Book Resources reports that Dark Horse Comics is collecting and reprinting all 28 issues of John Carter, Warlord of Mars, plus the three annuals, that were originally published by Marvel Comics in the late 1970's. The forthcoming volume, a hefty 632 pages that features the work of legends Marv Wolfman, Gil Kane and others, is scheduled to be published in March 2011. Sadly, and surprisingly, Dark Horse is bleaching the color out of Barsoom, as the interior artwork of the new collection will be black-and-white.

  1. I would love to pick them up but why would they even consider bleaching away the color?
Part of what made Burroughs books really great was his use of color to create an emotional impact.
Please, if Dark Horse Comics reads this: Leave the color intact or maybe even make it brighter.

  3. This is so lame. Good thing you can still pick the originals up at a reasonable price...

  4. Yeah, I'll stick to my originals. Can't believe they would do this in BW.
