Martian science fiction & fantasy is well-represented in Sense of Wonder: A Century of Science Fiction (Summer 2011), a forthcoming 900-page textbook edited by college lecturer Leigh Grossman and published by Wildside Press that includes stories, poems, and bibliographic essays. Here are the Martian SF&F works that I recognize:
- A Princess of Mars excerpt from novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1912/1917)
- "The Martian Way" novella by Isaac Asimov (1952)
- "Old Faithful" novelette by Raymond Z. Gallun (1934)
- "The Green Hills of Earth" short story by Robert A. Heinlein (1947)
- "Shambleau" novelette by C.L. Moore (1933)
- "A Martian Odyssey" novelette by Stanley G. Weinbaum (1934)
- "Duel on Syrtis" short story by Poul Anderson (1951)
- "The Last Days of Shandakor" novelette by Leigh Brackett (1952)
- "A Rose for Ecclesiastes" novelette by Roger Zelazny (1963)
- "A Martian Sends A Postcard Home" poem by Craig Raine (1979)
Thankfully, you can read about half of these Mars works for free, as I've linked above!
