Red star review for gun-toting David Macinnis Gill’s new YA novel Black Hole Sun

School Library Journal has given American science fiction author David Macinnis Gill a red star review for his new Young Adult "future-dystopia kick-ass action novel set on Mars,” Black Hole Sun (HarperCollins / Greenwillow, August 2010). In a sentence: “The occasional lack of exposition on the unfamiliar Martian technology may stump some readers, but that tiny flaw is easily overcome by the appealing characters, sharp dialogue, and action-packed plot.”

In a related piece titled “Men Are from Mars: David Macinnis Gill’s Black Hole Sun is the year’s funniest dystopian,” School Library Journal interviews a gun-toting Gill, who reveals that his novel is influenced by the 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai and by the 1956 American film The Searchers, starring John Wayne.
