Thanks to the blog JCOM Reader, I just got a sweet sneak peek at artist Joe Jusko’s cover art for Warlord of Mars #5 (February 2011), the next chapter in Dynamite Entertainment’s comic book adaptation of beloved pulp author Edgar Rice Burroughs’ fantastical science fiction novel A Princess of Mars (1912). Jusko not only pays homage to the classic Saturday Evening Post magazine covers painted by famed American artist Norman Rockwell, he also pays tribute to the Barsoomian cover art painted by artist Robert Kennedy Abbett that was used by Ballantine Books in the 1960’s for a paperback reprint of ERB’s Martian series.
